The rams used here at HeartsEase for breeding must be of the very best quality, so that we can each year produce even better Icelandic sheep than we have.  We cull heavily, and we will not sell ram lambs to our customers unless they represent the quality that we would want to use ourselves.  You’ll see listed the rams that we have used in breeding, and hopefully you will see by their descriptions why we used them. We are really excited by this year’s crop of sires!  They are big, broad and strong, with absolutely wonderful fleeces, both in terms of quantity and quality!

GENTIAN

gentiancropa.jpg (52900 bytes)

HWF11M, Gentian,  a beautiful moorit mouflon horned twin.  Lovely, thel rich fleece and beautiful texture and crimp, quiet and easy to handle, as well as strong, wide and square.  His sire (SRX701K-AI) is gorgeous, with beautiful, wide horns and a lovely black mouflon fleece.  Gentian goes back on both sides of his pedigree to leadersheep genetics, with Ari on his paternal side and Blesa on his maternal side.  His dam Gulbra (SRX638K--2,2,2), is a large, wide, square and strong ewe, whose yearling fleece was so outstanding it sold as a lamb quality fleece! She twinned as a lamb and has had twins each year since then, giving her a 200% lambing record.  Gulbra's mother is a Butur daughter. We are really please with the outstanding offspring Gentian has produced.  They have lovely patterns, soft luxurious fleece, strong horns, and superb conformation!

HWF02M, Ghiradelli, Moorit, Horned Twin.  This is one really super ram with lustrous, heavy, thel rich fleece--beautiful  texture and crimp!  He is quite big, a strong, wide and square ram. He has excellent horns, wide, strong and well shaped.  He is wary with strangers, but easy to get along with.  He carries spotting.  His moorit fleece remained unfaded and rich until shearing, even his face shines!  He carries Sveppur AI genetics, and his dam, Stumpy (BLW74G, 1,3,2,2,2) is large, beautifully made, has maintained very good quality fleece--a dark silvering black, has great mothering abilities, and has a wonderful temperament.  Ghiradelli's lambs are magnificent, with that shiny, lustrous, profuse fleece, and wonderful wide horns, along with great size and width!

MEHEMET

SRX175M, Mehemet, a beautiful Moorit Badgerface, polled single to a ewe lamb, has profuse, thel rich fleece with beautiful texture and color, a warm cream with caramel overtones.  We are very lucky to have been able to get him--he was going to stay at Tongue River as a sire this past year!  He is built beautifully--a very solid, strong, wide and square ram with great fleece genetics behind him.   This ram doubles on Falder genetics on both sides of his pedigree.  Both dam and grand dam were moorit badgerfaces.  He has produced excellent solid black lambs and also lambs with the black badgerface pattern.  They have wonderfully soft curls and thick fleeces, along with really solid, wide conformation and good size!  What a sire he's turning out to be!

FERNWELL

HWF27M, Fernwell, a white polled ram who gained his place in the sire lineup because of his incredible fleece, his wide, strong body, and his gentle temperament.   Fernwell is a triplet whose dam Sylvia (STS550F, lambing record 1,2,1,2,3,3/200%) is very milky,  He has gorgeous, thick, soft, thel rich fleece with beautiful texture and sheen.  This ram has  Askur AI genetics behind him--his sire (SRX539K-AI) threw many other outstanding lambs last year.  He carries black, badgerface, and spotting. With his lambs, Fernwell threw his lovely soft, profuse fleece, and solid strong body--the lambs are beautiful!

CHICORY

chicory8new.jpg (9834 bytes)

A polled black ram with who impressed us from the time he was born.  He is a glorious nonfading black with fleece that is just beautiful, long, thick and soft, with a lovely handle.  He is wide through out and solid, square and strong like his father, Mehemet (SRX175M) His fleece is so thick, it's hard to see his skin when parting it, and the fibers are unusually lustrous.  His mother, Flora, is a lovely snow white ewe whose fleece is beautiful, soft and lustrous.  She is from one of our old favorites, Sylvia, who is also dam of one of our other flock sires, Fennel, (listed below)  Chicory traces back twice to Faldur on his sire's side and to Askur on his mother's side.  Both parents have super temperaments, as does he.  He's just what we were looking for!  Gorgeous Blue black, completely polled, great fleece lines, he stays here as a flock sire!

MOONWINK

moonwink11new.jpg (15105 bytes)

A polled white AI sired ram who had fleece an inch an half long when he was born!  Moonwink is named as he is because his thel-rich fleece has the soft lustrous whiteness of a full moon, with absolutely astounding quality.  It is soft and luxurious with an unbelievable thickness and length -he almost glows as he stands watching us.  He is very large and impressive, with super width throughout, yet he is a gentle guy.  This is an incredible ram, and we can't wait to see his offspring!  His sire is Glaer, an AI ram whose quality is unquestioned, and his dam is Annie, a beautiful, big, moorit grey ewe with super fleece herself, who has a history of producing moorit and grey from his mother.

FENNEL

fennel6new.jpg (9470 bytes)

HWF159N, Fennel, a horned black badgerface ram with beautiful rich color and fleece so long and profuse it hangs over his face when he’s grazing.  Fennel is an exceptionally fine ram,  one who drew the eye from the time he was very young.  His fleece was a rich , warm caramel at birth, and it has held the warm tones as he has matured.  It is very nicely balanced and so long that the thel is almost 6 inches, with that buttery softness that is so delightful to feel.  His sire Mehemet (SRX 175M), has given us two of our flock sires this year, a tribute to his ability to pass on his quality.  Fennel traces back twice to Faldur  on his sire’s side, while his mother, Sylvia, (STS55F, 1,2,1,2,3,3,200%   has been a consistent and prolific producer of quality sheep.   Comes from good temperament, should produce it too.  We can’t wait to see what Fennel produces!

HAWKWEED

hawkweed6new.jpg (11530 bytes)

HWF163N, Hawkweed, a horned moorit ram, is undeniably one of the best moorit sires we’ve seen, with his dark unfading fleece that shines with copper highlights in the sun.  He is a majestic ram that captures your eye with excitement as you walk in the field.  His maternal grandmother Duet (BLW95G 2,2,2,2,1,2)  has the same regal bearing that draws your eye.  He is wide and strong, with fleece that makes you want to touch its profuse softness.  His father is Ghiradelli,  our super, horned moorit ram from last year, and his mother is Alyssum (HWF01M, twins as a ewe lamb)  Both parents’ fleeces won at Maryland Sheep and Wool last year. Ghiradelli’s mother is Stumpy, (BLW74G, 1,3,2,2,2 200%).  So Hawkweed has size, fleece quality, and prolificacy on both sides of his pedigree. Watchful, but easy to handle.  He traces back to AI sires Sveppur on his sire’s side and Hunn on his mother’s side.  WOW!
